What you can do here

  • The app can recognize kuzushiji in photos taken with your phone or images downloaded from the internet amd convert it into modern writing.
  • You can have the recognized letters displayed in the image or have a square indicate its location.
  • If the recognition result is incorrect, you can edit the letters.
  • You can output the recognition results as text.

How to...

Enter an image using your camera or photo album.
(Permission to access the camera and photo album is required.)

The app will instantly and automatically recognize the kuzushiji when you press the green recognition button.

Press the green recognition button again to show the recognition result or to hide it.

Move the slider to partially show the recognition result.

Press a character on the screen to highlight the same character elsewhere in the recognition result.

Press and hold a character on the screen to open the character details box. If it is hiragana, you will see the kanji it was derived from.
You can scroll down to see more kanji, if there are many.

In the editing space, you can make corrections to the recognition results.

When you press save, the edited caracters wil be highlighted in blue.

Press the text button  to show a text box with the recognition results that you can output.

You can also save the recognition results and change the text size.

The next time you come across kuzushiji at a museum, exhibition, or tea ceremony that you can't read, this tool is bound to come in handy!
