Purpose
Here on the website NIHONGO eな Portal for Learning Japanese our goal is to introduce - in a plain, straightforward way - various websites and online tools and apps useful for studying Japanese. Also, by presenting ideas on how to make good use of the internet, we aim to provide support for learners from all over the world who are looking for fun ways to study.
Contents
Site search
- You can search the site with a particular purpose in mind by choosing from 12 categories, such as ‘Speaking’, ‘Listening’ etc. You can also choose to specify the level of Japanese of the contents you want to search for. The 3 levels are Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. You can narrow down your search by choosing both a category and a level.
- The contents of the featured websites are presented as an itemised list, complete with screenshots.
- In the ‘How to…’ section we explain how to use websites and give simple instructions for operating online tools.
App search
- You can search separately in iOS or Android for apps from categories such as Read, Kana/Kanji, or Vocabulary.
- The search results show what you can do with the apps to make it easy to find apps from what you want to do.
- In the ‘How to…’ section specific useful functions of the app are also introduced.
"e! Kore"
- In this section we introduce several convenient features of various sites, tools and apps for learners with a particular purpose in mind.
- We suggest internet-based study methods that combine the use of a number of different websites and tools.
- We gather a collection of websites and apps based on the particular textbook they support, or by features included (such as games). In this section, sites are summed up from a different viewpoint to how they are in the main list.

Established in 1972 as a semi-governmental corporation under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, The Japan Foundation is the first organization that specializes in international cultural exchange in Japan, playing a major role in promoting arts and cultural exchange, Japanese language education overseas, Japanese studies and intellectual exchange. As an affiliated agency, The Japan Foundation Japanese-Language Institute, Kansai offers overseas students direct support through Japanese language programs and the development of Japanese teaching materials and websites.
