How to...
Essential Japanese is a part of NHK WORLD-JAPAN's video contents.
Click the clip you want to learn and choose your language.
If you enter from Learn Japanese, you can directly select your language.
The video is very simple, with just text and audio.
The first screen will show the Japanese (romaji) and the translation in the selected language, with a voice in Japanese, speaking slowly.
Immediately afterwards, a translation in the selected language will appear like a flashcard, with audio.
Finally, only the Japanese (romaji) will be shown with the Japanese audio at a natural pace.
You will learn 5 to 7 short phrases in each lesson using this pattern.
At the end of each clip is a summary of the phrases you learned in the lesson with the meanings in your selected language, each followed by the Japanese (Romaji), along with the audio.
The clips are very simple and will help you listen to and speak commonly used everyday expressions in no time.
